How to Request Google Ads Access if You Don’t Have It

Don’t have access to your Google Ads account? No problem, here’s how to correctly request it.

If you're working with a team, an agency, or have inherited an account, it’s possible you don’t yet have access to the Google Ads account associated with your business.

Not to worry! Gaining access is simple, and we’ll walk you through it.

🚦First, Check If You Already Have Access

  1. Go to ads.google.com
  2. Sign in with your Google account
  3. If you see your campaigns, great! You already have access
  4. If you see a blank dashboard or a message like “You don’t have any Google Ads accounts”, you’ll need to request access

📨 Step 1: Get the Google Ads Customer ID

You’ll need the 10-digit Customer ID (e.g.123-456-7890) of the account you’re requesting access to.

💡 This can be found in the top-right corner of any Google Ads account screen.

If you're unsure who manages the account, ask your marketing team, agency, or former account manager.

🤝 Step 2: Ask the Account Owner to Grant Access

Send them this message (feel free to copy/paste):

📬 Email Template:
Hi [Name],
Can you please grant me access to our Google Ads account (Customer ID:123-456-7890)?
Here’s my Google account email: [your.email@example.com]
Access level requested: Standard or Admin
Thank you!
[Your Name]

👨‍💻 Step 3: The Account Owner Grants Access

They’ll need to follow these steps:

  1. Sign in at ads.google.com
  2. Click Tools & Settings (the wrench icon) > Access and Security
  3. Click the blue + button
  4. Enter your email and choose an access level
  5. Click Send Invitation

✅ Once you accept the invite, you’ll be good to go!

🛠 What Access Level Should You Request?

  • Standard - You can manage campaigns and settings (recommended)
  • Admin - Full control, including user management
  • Read-Only - For viewing only (not recommended if you're running ads)
