How to Import Contacts & Opportunities

Importing contacts and opportunities with a CSV file helps you quickly bring data into Jumpalead. You can map fields, update existing records, and monitor the import process to make sure everything runs smoothly.

What You Need Before You Start

  • Permissions: Only Admin users can import contacts
  • File format: Your file must be a CSV (.csv)
  • File size: Keep files under 30MB. If larger, split into smaller files
  • Single sheet: Only one sheet or tab is allowed in the CSV
  • Headers: The first row cannot be blank. Include headers, and at least one must match a field in Jumpalead (for example, Name, Email, or Phone)

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Mismatched headers. Make sure your CSV headers match Jumpalead fields
Missing required fields. Each row needs at least a Name, Email, or Phone
Special characters in phone numbers. Remove spaces, brackets, or dashes
Duplicate records. Clean up your list before uploading

How to Import Contacts and Opportunities

There are two ways to start an import.

From Contacts: Go to Contacts > Smart Lists and click Import Contacts
From Opportunities: Go to Opportunities and click the Import button in the top right

Both options take you to the same import process.

Step 1: Choose What to Import

Select whether you want to import:

  • Contacts
  • Opportunities
  • Both Contacts and Opportunities at the same time

Step 2: Upload Your CSV File

  1. Click Next, then Upload File and select your CSV file
  2. Choose how you want to import: Create Only, Update Only, or Create and Update
Tip: By default, Jumpalead checks for duplicates using Email first, then Phone.

Step 3: Map Columns to Fields

  • Match each column from your file to the correct field in Jumpalead
  • If you don’t want to import a column, leave it unmapped and check the box to continue
  • Check Don’t update Empty Values if you want to keep existing data when the CSV field is blank
  • Jumpalead supports multiple email addresses and phone numbers for contacts
  • If Contacts and Opportunities are on the same line, they will automatically map to each other

Step 4: Review and Complete the Import

  • Review your mappings carefully
  • Choose extra options if you want to:
    • Create a Smart List from the imported contacts
    • Add contacts to a workflow
    • Tag contacts during import
  • Tick the confirmation box and proceed with the import

Step 5: Monitor Import Status

  • Open the Bulk Actions page under Contacts or Opportunities to track progress
  • Click Show Stats to view results
  • Download the error log if there are issues, fix the errors, and re-import

Tips

  • If your file is over 30MB, split it into smaller CSVs before uploading
  • Extra emails and phone numbers are stored as secondary fields instead of replacing the main one
  • Existing contacts are updated instead of duplicated if a match is found on email or phone
  • To update existing contacts, choose Update Only or Create and Update
  • If an import fails, download the error log to see what went wrong and try again
  • When importing Notes, you can only include one note per contact, up to 5000 characters

Bulk importing makes it easy to bring your data into Jumpalead, saving time and keeping your CRM organised.
